I am still not doing much out of the water, and the last time I tried to run was almost depressing. The week went like this.
Monday I went to Twin Rivers and swam
1,000
7 X 200 @ 6:45
5 X 200 @ 4:25 with small paddles
total: 4,100 meters.
After my night class, I shuffled 1.2 miles.
Tuesday it was
1,200
22 X 50 @ 1:12
(This feels like the perfect interval for working speed and heart rate. I have found that 1:00 is too fast for me right now, but I plan to keep working 1:00 sets until I can handle that pace.)
800 small paddles
4 X 100 @ 2:00
(This used to be my favorite set (20 X 100), but like the 50s @ 1:00, it is too tough for me now. I plan to keep working this one also. Last week I did 30 X at this pace, but I slowed the swim and had only :12 rest. At that pace I could probably swim it for two hours or more, but I used to consider the set a failure when I had less that :15 rest. That might not sound like much difference, but three seconds is huge in 100 meters.)
800
total: 4,300 meters.
Wednesday I felt adventurous and did
1,300 warm up
2 X 50
2 X 100
2 X 150
2 X 200
2 X 250
1 X 300
2 X 50
1 x 100 all of these were done on a @2:00 base
1,200 small paddles
total: 4,500 meters.
After dark-- I am so embarrassed now that I wait for the cover of night to put my running shoes on-- I shuffled 1.35 miles.
Thursday
1,500
5 X 50 @ 1:00
400 small paddles
24 X 50 @ 1:12
700 small paddles
4 X 100 @ 2:30 medium paddles
total: 4,500 meters.
Friday is distance day but John was out. However, I went ahead with a big one on my own. I did
2,200
2,400
2,600
2,800
1,700
total: 11,700 meters. Everything was slow and easy. Everything felt fine. Now I yearn to swim some open water.
Saturday we went to Hillbilly Heaven, and I got out in the Delta and shuffled and walked the 3.8 miles in. I jogged 2.84 and walked .97. It was pathetic, but I am still out there fighting the battle. Only five weeks ago I was burning the road up. Now I waddle like an old man.
For the week, I
swam 29,100 meters,
walked 3.17 miles, and
shuffled 5.39 miles.
Still no weights. It just doesn't seem to happen.
