Updates on Competition

Updates on Competition
by Jay Unver

(Lehrton, Mississippi) Big ASS Endurance has been busy of late with the Gateway to the Delta 10 Miler, Virtual Swim Meet 4, and strongman stuff at Plate City Gym. Here are the results.

Zane Hodge won the Big ASS World Championship at 10 miles Saturday with his performance in Batesville, Mississippi. He covered the hilly course in 1:47:31, outpacing Forrest Hodge and (in abstentia) defeating Randy Beets once again. Hodge was all smiles after the race as he posed for pictures, signed autographs, and explained to fans his total dominance of the too tall Randy Beets.

Virtual Swim Meet 4 was a tight one with Beets coming out the victor by a mere two seconds in a meet that saw the competitors swim three events for a total of 1,100 yards. The results are as follows:

                             Hodge                                        Beets
                          700 - 10:34                                    10:40
                          100 - 1:18                                      1:08
                          300 - 4:26                                      4:28

So Beets won again, and again Hodge was in a foul mood afterwards. But when I spoke with him at his gym, Plate City, he was more interested in focusing on his victories in the new Association of Sports Strongmen. He recently set the inaugural eight inch log press record first at 4 X 57. Saturday evening, after winning his ten-mile world championship, he reset that record at 4 X 63, and he set another record for three reps with 68 pounds. "That's 68 pounds more than Randy Beets did," he said with pride.

After setting that record, Hodge went to the alley and broke his own Husafell mark with 116 pounds for twenty feet. This bested his previous record by one pound in weight and five feet in distance.

The two athletes are currently in negotiations for Virtual Meet 5. Also going on is the investigation of Beets' smoke detectors and the accusation that Hodge once more has committed competition tampering. When more news is available, I will report it here.
