And That Is What I Did

I was not swimming at 4:50 a.m. Saturday morning. I was not swimming at 5:30. Nor was I swimming at 6:00. When John asked me if we were swimming Saturday, I said, not me. Why, what are you doing? he asked. Sleeping was my answer. And that is what I did.

I also knew I was not going to run Saturday. I had already decided, early in the week, that my legs needed not so much as a day off as they needed something different. Instead of shuffling, I planned on squats and sessions on the stationary bicycle. And that is what I did.

I did not make it to Plate City Gym until about 12:30, around half time of the LSU football game. I knew I wanted to watch Florida versus Auburn at 2:30, so I hit the gym at the hottest time of the day. Actually, it only got to 93 Saturday, so Fall is finally here. Since I enjoy Fall, that is what I did.

Saturday is leg day at Plate City, but it is also the day I hit overhead presses and a host of other assistance exercises that I don't get in during the week. I worked the rotator cuffs particularly hard with lots of volume and some overloaded resistance. I worked the neck which I often forget during the week. Not only did I do neck extensions, but for the first time ever I did neck curls. I knew I needed to start back working the neck because I had neck spasms one time after the Chicot Challenge. So that is what I did.

The shoulders came in for lateral raises for set after set after set. I had not done overhead presses for three weeks. I plan to make a commitment to that move. I did the Swim Pull for four sets and I went heavier than I have in a long time. Then the legs. I did four sets of squats and five sets of one minute on the stationary bicycle. When all that was done, it was time to take nutrition and then to watch more college football. And that is what I did.
